Infant Learning Doctor Proving Babies Can Read
World-renowned infant learning expert, Dr Robert Titzer, is making an urgent housecall to Australian homes spreading the word on the importance of teaching children to read well before they begin school.
During Dr Titzer's June/July visit, he will be presenting a number of nationwide workshops focusing on his extensive research and findings into infant learning and the value of taking advantage of the natural window of opportunity to teach a child to read when he/she begins to speak.
According to Dr Titzer, there are a number of scientifically proven reasons why teaching children to read early is beneficial. This includes findings that babies' brains develop faster than older children's brains and a baby's brain thrives on stimulation and develops at a phenomenal pace, almost 90 per cent during the first five years of life.*
"The multi-sensory technique of using a combination of sound, sight and interaction helps a child grasp word recognition - leading to early reading success, even from as young as three months.
"A multi-sensory approach offered by my Your Baby Can Read program is designed to combine images and words with varied forms of repetition, song and fun. For example, a child will be shown a word (like clap), hear the word, see images on the DVD representing the meaning of the word, and perform some physical activity related to that word." he said.
For hundreds of Australian families, the Your Baby Can Read phenomenon has already reaped the rewards for their preschoolers.
Victorian literacy specialist, linguist and Director of The Learning Centre, Lyn Cottee considers Dr Titzer's methods as a miracle and has applied many of Dr Titzer's educational tools to her clients and to her seven year old daughter, Chloe, who is diagnosed with Cri du Chat Syndrome, a congenital disorder with symptoms of severe cognitive, speech and motor delays.
"Since using the Your Baby Can Read program in 2005, Chloe has begun to read with comprehension and can spell - skills that would not have been possible without the assistance of this wonderful educational tool." she said.
